What is a "Bearish Day" Streak?
A bearish day occurs when AUD/CHF closes lower than its previous close (negative daily return). When this happens for two or more consecutive sessions, we call it a Bearish Consecutive Streak. These streaks reveal sustained selling pressure, trend weakness, and potential exhaustion zones — critical for trend-following and mean-reversion strategies in bear markets.
This dataset captures every bearish streak in AUD/CHF since 2000, including: streak length, cumulative drawdown, volume context, and whether the streak ended with a bullish reversal signal. Traders use this data to estimate the probability of continuation after 3, 5, or 7 consecutive down days, and to identify when downside momentum is likely to fade.
What the data reveals
- Streak distribution: Frequency of 2,3,4,5+ consecutive bearish days
- Continuation odds: Probability of another down day after N bearish closes
- Cumulative drawdown: Average total loss during each streak length
- Session clustering: Do bearish streaks start on specific weekdays?
Consecutive down days often precede trend acceleration, but extended streaks (>5) show rising reversal risk — helping traders time short exits or counter-trend long entries.
